IP rating reference table
The IP protection rating describes the resistance of a material to solid objects and liquids. This indicator is crucial in selecting your material based on the situation. To correctly read the IP classification (format given by IEC 60529), it is necessary to separate the two digits (tens and units):
- The first digit corresponds to the protection against solids
- The second digit corresponds to the protection against liquid intrusion

Example
For example:
- IP40: material protected against solid bodies larger than 1mm. No protection against liquids
- IP65: material protected against dust and protected against high water jets from any direction
- IP67: material dust-tight and protected against temporary immersion up to 1 meter depth
Note: It should be noted that if a material is IP69, it is not necessarily IP67. This must be specified.
Another point of attention is that the IP68 certification, for example, does not mean that the material is hermetically sealed against water intrusion at depths greater than one meter. It may also specify that water enters the material but does not cause damage.
Warning: IP Rating Considerations
On a Panel PC (all-in-one industrial PC), "IP65 protection" may only apply to the front face after a compliant embedding. On another product, the rating may apply to the entire housing but not to the connectors when they are in use. Always check the tested part and the mounting conditions. The IP code is defined by IEC 60529.
